DDS aims to highlight the close connection between furniture production, usage, and the natural environment. By creating different combinations of furniture, the exhibition showcases artificial nature such as "cliffs," "forests," and "hills." This serves as a reminder for people to pay attention to the relationship between the furniture industry chain and the overall environment.
One of the standout features of DDS is the vertical furniture frame used in the forest space. The frame, combined with splints, forms a semi-transparent dense forest space. Visitors can explore the exhibition space hidden behind the forest path, immersing themselves in a unique and captivating experience.
The hill space in DDS is a multifunctional communication area constructed with symbolic chairs. This space serves as a hub for negotiation, rest, selfies, meetings, and various activities. It also allows visitors to interact with the exhibition spaces of other exhibitors, creating a sense of community and fostering collaboration.
TOWOdesign, led by chief designer He Mu, was responsible for the realization of DDS. The team tackled the challenge of balancing exhibitors' individuality with the exhibition's theme in a cluster exhibition. They designed a form of space organization that ensured visual artistry, consistency, and integrity in the public area of the exhibition while showcasing the individuality of the exhibiting brands.
The realization of DDS was made possible through the use of 3D mapping technology for large physical objects and multi-projector fusion technology. Additionally, waste furniture was recycled to form large furniture walls, further emphasizing the exhibition's commitment to sustainability and environmental consciousness.
DDS covers an area of 2000 sqm and is located in Shanghai. The project was carried out from May 2018 to September 2018, showcasing the dedication and effort put into creating this unique exhibition.
DDS has received recognition for its innovative design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2019. This prestigious award honors designs that demonstrate outstanding creativity, resourcefulness, and technical skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life and making the world a better place.
DDS is a testament to the power of design to create immersive and thought-provoking experiences. By redefining the boundaries of furniture design and highlighting the importance of sustainability, DDS sets a new standard for the industry and inspires future innovations.
